Animal Control

The Animal Control Officer (ACO) is John Duffy who has served as the Town's ACO since 1982. He can be reached at 437-3936 or email at jduffy@barrington.ri.gov.

Lost and Found Pets. If you are searching for a Lost or Found Pet, please search the Town's Lost & Found Section. We will be posting any pets that we find on there.

Below are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) concerning your pets and the sighting of wild animals.

  1. All pets must be licensed even if they are house bound.
  2. All dogs must be on a leash when off the owners property.
  3. No dogs are allowed on the Town Beach at any time.
  4. Barking complaints should be sent to the Dispatch Center (437-3935). After 3:00 PM, the police will respond. For a fine to be imposed, two(2) neighbors must file a complaint and be willing to testify in court.  If the ACO or police officer can witness barking complaints then they can issue fines.
  5. The fine for improper restraint (off the leash) for a dog is $50.
    If your dog escapes from the house or yard, please call the Dispatch Center and no fine will be imposed when the dog is found.
  6. Coyote sightings should be reported immediately to the Dispatch Center and then to D.E.M. (222-3070).
  7. If dead animals are seen in the road, please call the Dispatch Center for removal.
  8. Please contact the Police Department for the location of all domestic pets recovered by the ACO... 401 437-3935. Check our Lost & Found Section to see recent updates.
  9. Wild animals like skunks, raccoons, and squirrels that cause a nuisance on your property must by handled by a private pest control company.  We will respond to any calls of a sick or rabid animal on private property.
