Tax Assessor's Office
It is the mission of the Barrington Tax Assessor’s Office to collect and maintain accurate data regarding; real estate, motor vehicles, and personal property located in the Town of Barrington. Accurate data results in fair assessments for all taxpayers in Town. The Assessor’s Office encourages you to go to the Northeast Revaluation Group (formerly Appraisal Resource Revaluation) website and review your property record card. Should you find any errors or omissions, please contact Appraisal Resource and they will schedule an appointment to inspect your home (at your convenience) and make any appropriate changes to your property record card.
The Town of Barrington (like all other cities/towns in the state of Rhode Island) does not update property values on an annual basis. Rhode Island General Law § 44-5-11.6 mandates that assessments be updated every three years, with a full revaluation every ninth year in that cycle.
In 2010, the Town completed its second statistical revaluation (since the completion of a full revaluation in 2005) with the help of Appraisal Resource Revaluation Group, LLC and is due for a full revaluation in 2014.
FORMAL APPEAL INFORMATION
Formal appeals on Real Estate and Personal property may be submitted starting September 28, 2012 (the date the first tax payment is due) ending December 27, 2012. Keep in mind that the date of assessment for your real estate was December 31, 2010, so sales in 2011 or 2012 are not relevant to the value of your real estate as of 12-31-10.
Appeals on motor vehicles must be submitted within thirty (30) days of the mailing of your motor vehicle bill.
PLAT MAPS AND ZONING MAPS
Both plat maps and zoning maps are updated by a GIS firm named MainStreetMaps. Their website is http://www.mainstreetmaps.com/RI/Barrington/. From this site you can perform a radius search (necessary for both Zoning and Planning Board issues, along with applications for CRMC and DEM). The Town is currently working with MainStreetMaps on updating this site on a daily basis so that ownership records will be no more than a day behind.
LAND EVIDENCE RECORDS
You may obtain Land Evidence Records (deeds, mortgages, etc.) from the vault at the Barrington Town Hall at a cost of $1.50/page, or you may go online to www.uslandrecords.com (select RI then Barrington) and for $2.00/page you may obtain the same records without leaving your home or office.
