Tax Assessor MISSION STATEMENT It is the mission of the Barrington Tax Assessor’s Office to collect and maintain accurate data regarding homes, businesses, motor vehicles, and personal property located in the Town of Barrington. Accurate data results in fair assessments for all taxpayers in Town. The Assessor’s Office encourages you to go to the Vision Appraisal website http://data.visionappraisal.com/BarringtonRI/ and review your property record card. Should you find any errors or omissions, please contact our office and we will schedule an appointment to re-inspect your home (at your convenience) and make any appropriate changes to your property record card. No changes can be made without a physical inspection of the property in question. REVALUATIONThe Town of Barrington (like all other cities/towns in the state of Rhode Island) does not update property values on an annual basis. By Rhode Island state law, values are updated every three years. The Town is currently in a revaluation year (value as of 12/31/2008), the last revaluation was completed in 2005. As of January 2009 every property in Town has received and exterior inspection by the Vision Appraisal Company to check the accuracy of the property record cards. APPEAL INFORMATIONVision Appraisal Company is now in the hearing stage of the 12/31/08 revaluation. If you feel your new assessment is in excess of current market value, you must make an appointment with Vision by calling 888-844-4300. Hearings are being scheduled between February 17, 2009 and March 2, 2009 and are being held in the School Committee Room of the Town Hall. Formal appeals to the Tax Assessor can only be filed between September 30th and December 28th. Should you choose to appeal your assessment, the burden of proof lies with the homeowner to provide proof that the assessed value is in excess of market value as of December 31, 2008. HISTORICAL REAL ESTATE VALUES The median sales price of homes is a generally accepted measure of the direction of value in any given city/town. The median value represents the point where half of the homes sell for less money, and half of the homes sell for more money. Below is a list of the historical median sale prices for the past ten years in the Town of Barrington: 2008 $405,000 (through December 31, 2008) Michael R. Minardi
